What’s happened to the Vita Uk physical release? New release date of December 2014? Please say it ain’t so! 🙁

Is the Vita version ever going to get a physical release in the UK? The release date keeps slipping, but I’ve now seen that it’s available in the US. I really want a physical cart! Thanks. 🙂

SYSTEM 3 CELEBRATES 30-YEAR ANNIVERSARY BY BRINGING BACK A CLASSIC IP ON VITA

Fancy a sneak preview of Putty in action? Of course you do!

View the ‘stretch-tastic‘ new Putty Squad teaser trailer below:

System 3 is proud to announce the return of one of gaming’s most loved mascots: Putty!

The stretchy blue blob is all set to go digital in VITA Vision by way of the critically acclaimed Putty Squad videogame. Cited by many gaming publications as one of the best games of its time, Putty Squad follows the story of unlikely hero Putty in an old-skool platform-adventuring quest for his kidnapped friends. With reviews such as “this game is fantastic – 94%” (CU Amiga), “quite simply the best – 91%” (Amiga Power) and “just about perfect – 90%” (Amiga Format), there can be no doubting this game’s proven pedigree.

The return of the game marks the beginning of a revival of System 3’s classic IPs to tie in with the company’s 30-year anniversary in 2012.
The very same year also marks Putty’s 20th birthday, with his first Amiga outing setting screens alight in 1992.

The VITA version of the game takes things further than ever before with a complete graphical overhaul.
Every background, bitmap, enemy and ally has been redrawn and re-rendered to take advantage of the VITA’s gorgeous display.
On top of that Putty Squad will also take advantage of several of the VITA’s unique capabilities such as front and rear touch-screen controls and location-based unlockables!

While the VITA is set to enjoy cutting edge 3D adventures in its launch window, Putty Squad stands out by offering jaw-droppingly beautiful 2D vistas married with tried, tested and improved upon platform-adventure gameplay that has stood the test of time and come out fighting.
Putty Squad is also the perfect handheld companion, offering up a huge adventure split up into perfect journey-sized chunks.

Below you will find more information of Putty Squad VITA’s many features:

        COMPLETE GRAPHICAL OVERHAUL
A gorgeous graphical style that combines the original designs of Phillip Thornton with the fidelity and resolution afforded by the VITA’s cutting edge display. Every element of the game has been redrawn and re-rendered.

        FINE TUNED GAMEPLAY
The original team of Mark Cale and John Twiddy have spent months tuning, retuning and fine tuning the gameplay so that not only stands up to the test of time but also sets a benchmark for this style of gamplay. Most of these games are similar to free online slot machine games where you can play the free slots through this letsplayslots.com slotmachine website.

        DOWNLOADABLE FREE LEVELS
The VITA version will also allow gamers access to a whole host of secret levels, which were previously not available. Gamers will be rewarded for their VITA support with nearly double the amount of levels. A number of these exclusive levels will only be unlocked as part of the VITA’s location-based services. These new levels will be released every 2 weeks, online through first party stores and sites.

Also, unlock new levels using the UNIQUE Sticker Book, you collect ‘stickers’ from hidden levels.

        LOCATION-BASED SERVICES
Some levels and Avatars will only unlock and become available when the player takes their VITA to a specific location. For example, going to a football stadium will unlock a correctly attired Avatar, visiting the natural History Museum will unlock an ancient Inca level or visiting the Science Museum will unlock an outer space level (specific locations and rewards tbc).

        FRONT AND REAR TOUCH-PAD
Rather than go crazy with touch-screen controls System 3 has chosen to map the actions that make for the best and most natural gameplay experience. The rear touch-pad will be used for various actions in the game, such as inflating/floating. Gamers will also be able to quickly zoom into the action for difficult jumps and even just to appreciate the detailed graphics even more. This can easily be done with a flick of a finger to or fro on the front touch pad.

        NEW ARTWORK
Along with the redrawn world comes brand new artwork, which has never been seen before. This brand new artwork, designed by original designer Phillip Thornton, can be seen in various places including as intros to each level.

        GAME-SHARE
Multiplayer game-share options that allow up to four people to compete in tournaments, either versus or in Team Play.
Only one person needs a copy of the game in order for their friends to be able to experience Putty Squad, albeit in a limited fashion. When the link is severed the other players will no longer be able to play the game but they will immediately be given the option to buy it from PSN (exact details of game sharing tbc).

        AVATAR SUPPORT
Dozens of Avatars will be made available, both via PSN and via location-based service downloads.

        ONLINE LEADERBOARDS
Easy, constant access to online leaderboards.

[…] For those of you that aren’t up to date with the turbulent history of Putty Squad, allow us to explain. The game was originally developed in the mid-Nineties for the Amiga 1200, SNES, Mega Drive and PC, but of these four only the SNES version ever reached the shelves. However, the Amiga 1200 and Mega Drive versions were made available for review, prompting years of speculation over the whereabouts of the missing versions – particularly amongst Amiga owners, who were starved of good platformers and already in possession of a demo version. Eventually, the Amiga version was found and released as a free download by System 3 over Christmas 2013, to tie in with the release of the remade game on modern platforms. […]

Looming forward to the putty squad release. Glad to see people reusing retro ideas and producing nextgen quality and utilizing the hardware to give the retro games the depth in with the developers had hoped the finished game would be like. Putty squad was definitely an idea in the wrong gaming era, let hope it achieves the hype and expectation!!

Pleased to report that Sony QA have today passed the PS4 European patch. This is set to go live at 9am on Monday 21st and should hopefully resolve the problem with the platinum trophies. Sorry for the delay.

        • System 3 wrote on 16 July 2014 at 08:44

Update on PS4 patch: Unfortunately QA found an issue with the European patch which was hoped to go live on 16/7/14. The game had an incompatbility with the latest V1.70 SDK. This has been corrected and a new patch is being submitted to Sony which hopefully will be approved and go live on 23/7/14.

        • System 3 wrote on 6 July 2014 at 05:33

As a result of multiple requests we have created a patch which makes the European PS4 version work identically to the US version and will allow the final sticker book page to be completed and hence the Platinum trophy awarded. This patch is currently going through our own QA process to verify that it does not introduce any other problems. Assuming no problems are found at this stage, it is scheduled to enter Sony QA on Wednesday 9th and if it passes Sony QA first time, it will go live on PSN on Wednesday 16th July.

        • Liam wrote on 6 July 2014 at 05:22

Is the PS4 version getting a patch any time soon? Page 10 of the sticker book isn’t showing it’s complete, despite having done all challenges. The game has been out for months, it should’ve been patched by now!

        • System 3 wrote on 23 June 2014 at 07:43

Sorry for the delays. The PS4, 3DS and Vita versions are already out and the XBLA and PS3 versions are going live on Wednesday 25th June. The Steam version is very nearly finished and will go live within the next four weeks.

        • figurehead wrote on 23 June 2014 at 12:04

Has this game been cancelled on every other format besides the PS4? Release schedule was put back and now does not even seem to exist.

        • System 3 wrote on 6 June 2014 at 07:36

We are currently working on the extra levels which will allow you to complete all the trophies. These are expected to be finished this month. Sorry for the delay.

        • Markus wrote on 6 June 2014 at 04:33

Please fix the European download version of the game for PS4, there´s no chance to get platinum.

        • Lindsay wrote on 18 April 2014 at 10:52

Is Putty Squad still coming out for wiiu? Id love to play it on that!

        • Andy wrote on 11 April 2014 at 03:38

Putty squad for PS3 and Vita were promised early in the year. With no release date available on any of the game sites I’m just wondering how much longer we have to wait. I’m also waiting to get my platinum on the PS4 version, and since there is one trophy I can’t get, the wait is now getting annoying. I thought that one should be able to platinum every game released by Sony. In this case it’s not so. Probably a question I’ll put to Sony themselves. Please let us know when you expect to release this game since Game had Q1 on their website but now it just says TBC2014. Understood if there is a delay because of issues with programming etc., but an estimated release date would be nice. Also can you not just patch the PS4 version to allow us to get the last trophy?
On a positive note, it’s a great game and you guys have done a great job on the PS4 version. Thanks.

I grew up on C64 then Amiga. Had a PS4 since launch day, and you know what? Putty Squad is getting lots of play time – absolutely fantastic! I do hope System3 release more classics such as Putty Squad. Well done and thanks!

          Dear SYSTEM 3 – Team.

My biggest respect to System 3! I remember my childness, i remeber nights without sleep,but…..
I can’t forget “the last ninja 1-3 + remix” nights of wounded fingers and 4 square bracket eyes 😀

After 25 years i give up the hope that “The Last Ninja 4” is comming out sometimes for the W7/8 x64 systems. I hope ever that the same happens as like the “DOOM” effect! Years of waiting but DOOM 4 is comming, hides somewhere! xD

Should we give up our hope in germany that the “Last Ninja 4” is comming out someday for Win systems? Or is it decided that “LN 4” never comming for the Retro Scene?

          PS: greetz to M.Gray!

          Best regards

Will you be porting the SNES version over to the AMIGA as well after finishing those versions just so us AMIGA fans can finally get the experience of what the final AMIGA version would have played like?

Playing the Demo on the AMIGA just isn’t the same experience of the unreleased AMIGA game actually getting released in a full version.

There is a big market for retro these days so a new AMIGA game might be a good thing.

        • System 3 wrote on 16 May 2013 at 11:18

Don’t worry – we are attempting to support all digital and retail versions which is part of why it has taken so long 🙁

        • Daniel wrote on 16 May 2013 at 09:06

I was hoping it would be a nod ahead to the unfinished AMIGA version trying to port the rest of the game from the SNES into what we already have for the AMIGA so that we will get a finished AMIGA version.

Sadly thats not to be but it’s on the PS3 so thats good. But for me the experience of being able to play a finished AMIGA version would be hard to beat.

I agree Jay, would pay good money too. The original Amiga demo was and still is amazing. I remember playing the demo way back then and looking forward with excitement to playing the full version on my 1200. After almost 20 years it would be absolutely fantastic to be able to play it. I will definitely buy a version for one of the modern platforms, but please please please also release the original Amiga version for us Amiga/retro fans.
